The Wyoming Department of Homeland Security (WDHS) received an anonymous email with non-specific threats made against state facilities and schools across Wyoming. At approximately 11:00 a.m., WDHS Director, Guy Cameron, forwarded the email, along with a letter urging local departments and agencies to take necessary precautions.
The Sheridan Police Department, College Police Officers, and Sheridan County School District #2 administrators began collaborating immediately to ensure the continued safety of all students and staff. School Districts 1 and 3 were also informed and included in the communication process with other agencies.
“As always, the safety of all citizens of Sheridan County is priority one,” said SC Police Lieutenant Tom Ringley.
Safety protocols included building sweeps, investigation into the email legitimacy, and coordination throughout all entities.
“After learning more specifics regarding where and how the threat was made, along with other information obtained from outside agencies including Homeland Security, local law enforcement personnel deemed it safe to continue normal operations, while following safety protocols,” Ringley said.
“Per best practices, we continue to monitor and conduct additional sweeps throughout our facilities,” said Sheridan College Police Chief, Jason Vela.
